About DARD

A national NGO dedicated to rehabilitation and development for persons with disabilities across South Sudan.

Vision

A transformed and inclusive society where persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups can live their lives in dignified conditions free from poverty, discrimination, and violence.

Mission

We work together for a positive and sustainable change in the lives of persons with disabilities, children, youth, and women affected by poverty, discrimination, violence, and injustice, achieved through coordinated partnership, effective humanitarian aid, skills development, and awareness and advocacy work.

DARD has a presence in three states across South Sudan, with plans to extend to other areas.

Lakes State

Headquarters in Rumbek, the core of DARD's field programs since 2005.

Central Equatoria State

Liaison office in Juba for national-level advocacy and partner coordination.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal State

Programs coordinated through the Juba liaison office, with plans to expand presence and services further.

Our History

DARD has operated in Lakes State since 2005, supporting disability awareness and advocacy, inclusive education, and civic engagement, including South Sudan's 2010 general elections and the 2011 referendum on secession. DARD served as an implementing partner for UNMISS Civil Affairs Quick Impact Projects (2007–2012), and has delivered peacebuilding, WASH, governance, child protection, and humanitarian resilience programs at the grassroots level. DARD also supports international observances including the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3), International Women's Day, and back-to-learning campaigns for girls.

Notable past work includes an EU-funded governance project with Oxfam GB incorporating peacebuilding and conflict mitigation in Cueibet County, an Enhancing Peace and Security (EPS) project with Pact South Sudan (2013–2014), a governance and GBV project with Oxfam GB and the IRC (2014–present), and a 2017 peacebuilding project with CRS in Rumbek East County that produced four years of sustainable peace between the Gony and Thuyic communities.

Organizational Structure

DARD is governed by a Board of Directors and led by an Executive Director. Reporting to the Executive Director are the Human Resource Officer, Resource Mobilization Manager, Liaison & Partnership Officer (Juba), Programs Manager, and Finance Officer, supported by Logistics, Advocacy & Communications, Programme, MERL, Finance Assistant, and Administrative staff across field offices. The organization operates at three levels: strategic, tactical, and management/team.
